Official Combat Preview video

New Combat Video

Last week, LotRT was selected to be part of Tacticon 2024, a big digital festival for, you guessed it, tactical games! To celebrate, we made a new video that shines the spotlight on the deep and unique combat mechanics of LotRT.

TactiCon was an invaluable opportunity to reach new medieval and Arthurian lovers and grow our community!

Booths everywhere!

Also this month, we presented LotRT at Dracolite, a medieval boutique in Montreal, as well as at ComicCon Montreal 2024! We met a ton of fans and future fans. It's always a pleasure to meet you folks at our events. The cherry on the sundae was being picked as the jury's favorite by Loto-Québec's Indie Zone! :D

Combat in LotRT

In the topic of TactiCon and combat, let's talk about battle and the honor system in the game.

While your knights will be faced with challenges that test their sense of honor and chivalric virtues during adventures, the same will be true during combat! Systems have been designed specifically to react to dishonorable actions.

Game capture showing a knight attacking another on a bridge

Here's a quick overview of these actions, bearing in mind that they only apply if the opponent is a Knight, noble by status:

  • Attacking a disarmed Knight

  • Using a bow against a Knight (bows were reserved for hunting and for on-foot combattant!)

  • Fighting more than one-to-one

  • Striking an unarmed enemy  or a foot soldier while on horseback, failing to grant mercy (the goal of fighting another Knight isn't to kill them, but to force them to surrender and exchanging their freedom for a ransom).

Game capture showing a knight-player using a bow, which removes 2 honor points and lowers his group cohesion to “Unstable”

If you nevertheless decide to ignore these rules, your Knight will lose Honor points, which will gradually undermine the cohesion of the group. The worse your group's cohesion, the fewer Grail cards you'll have in your hand, making it harder to succeed in future challenges - both in and out of combat!

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this mechanic. Feel free to come chat with us on social media or Discord!
